Founded in 1990, Zichron Menachem is named after Menachem Erntal, an Israeli boy who battled cancer for 14 years. Drawing on their vast experience, Menachem's parents and friends founded Zichron Menachem to ease the suffering of young cancer patients and their families. Since then, doctors, public figures, rabbis, professionals and hundreds of volunteers have also become involved.
Discovering that a child has cancer turns a family's entire world upside down in ways that cannot be expressed in words. It is a veritable emotional and physical earthquake, something that 'outsiders' cannot comprehend. In addition to the physical suffering, cancer-stricken children are cut off from friends and school. The accompanying distress and fear take an enormous emotional and economic toll on the whole family. Unique and fascinating activities are needed to give the ill children and their families the tools and strength to contend with the terrible disease.
Zichron Menachem volunteers remain at the young cancer patients' side from morning until late at night, 365 days a year, keeping them busy and cheering them up in the hospital and at their homes from morning till night. They work alongside a staff of art, music and other teachers. Zichron Menachem's library of games books and are at the children's disposals at all times. |  |
